In Loving Memory

Doris Bezkor

February 11, 1934 - November 23, 2024

Doris Jean Hamel Bezkor, of Manhasset, NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 23, 2024.

Always the life of the party, Doris will be remembered for her quick wit, tremendous sense of humor and kind heart. Her love of the outdoors and athletics put her on a course to meet the love of her life and husband of 45 years, Edward, while skiing at Stowe, VT. Doris also enjoyed camping at Lake George, NY, swimming at Jones Beach, NY, trips to Disney World, and possibly her favorite activity, riding rollercoasters, which she was still doing at the age of 90 with her grandchildren!

She was always willing to volunteer when help was needed, and her natural leadership skills quickly advanced her to positions of authority. She held the president’s title in several organizations such as The Onderdonk Historical Society, Manhasset Garden Club, the Women’s Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus, and the Atria Residents Council.  At these organizations, she will be remembered for her stand-up comedy and dramatic performances, hosting lively bingo games, and retaining top scores in bowling competitions.

Professionally, Doris worked at the Roslyn, NY high school as a guidance counselor and physical education teacher. Later, she became a licensed Realtor where she had a long and successful career with Coach Realty. She also opened and ran her own boutique with her two best friends. During that time, she was able to amass her incredible Ty Beanie Baby collection.

Beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Doris was born in Manhasset, NY on February 11, 1934. She graduated from Manhasset High School, earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Springfield College, where she was in the first full time class in which women were admitted, and achieved her Master’s in School Administration from Hofstra University.  She is preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Ruth Hamel, brother Donald Hamel and husband Edward L. Bezkor. She is survived by her son Bob Bezkor (Bonnie) and grandsons Barrett and Benjamin, son Ed Bezkor (Lauray) and grandson Landen, and nieces and nephew Penny Hamel (Rich), Holly Hamel and Todd Hamel.

A celebration of life ceremony will take place on April 25, 2025 at 10:00AM at the National Cemetery in Chattanooga, TN, where she will be laid to rest with her husband. In lieu of flowers, charitable gifts may be made to the nonprofit organization to which Doris contributed her time and talents.
